EcoVadis score and medals

Your EcoVadis score is a number from 0 to 100: a weighted average of your scores on four themes. A medal is not tied to a fixed score. It depends on how you score compared with all companies that EcoVadis assessed in the past twelve months. Platinum is the top 1%, gold the top 5%, silver the top 15% and bronze the top 35%. This is set out in the EcoVadis Medals Methodology  (version 2.0, valid from January 2026).

For what EcoVadis assesses in detail, see the hub page. For how to earn points with documents, see questionnaire and documents. If you do not get a medal despite a good overall score, read which condition is missing. This page is about the result: what your score means and when you get a medal.

How is the EcoVadis score calculated?

EcoVadis first gives a score per theme: environment, labour and human rights, ethics, and sustainable procurement. Each theme receives a score from 0 to 100. That score is based on seven indicators that together show whether you have a policy, whether you carry it out, and whether you report results on it.

IndicatorWhat EcoVadis looks forWeight in theme score
PoliciesDocumented policy with targets20%
EndorsementsPublic support for external initiatives5%
Actions and certificatesWhat you concretely do, plus valid certificates40%
ReportingFigures on results14%
360° WatchWhat external sources report about you21%

On top of those points, a correction applies for company size and country risk. Smaller companies receive a bonus, because EcoVadis expects less extensive systems from them. The overall score is then a weighted average of the four themes. Each theme receives a weight from 1 to 4, depending on how important it is for your industry.

What is a good EcoVadis score?

EcoVadis places scores in five levels. This helps you interpret a number, separate from medals.

ScoreLevelWhat it means
85-100OutstandingMature, proactive system with exceptional practices
65-84AdvancedStrong system with clear targets, actions and measurable results
45-64GoodStructured policy and actions, with areas for improvement
25-44PartialFirst steps, but major gaps in policy, actions or reporting
0-24InsufficientNo structured approach, or hardly any

A score of 45 or higher is therefore “good”. Whether that is enough depends on your client. Some buyers ask for a minimum score, others ask for a medal.

EcoVadis medals: platinum, gold, silver and bronze

Medals are relative. EcoVadis compares your score with all companies assessed in the twelve months before, across all industries. Your percentile on the day of publication determines the medal.

MedalCondition
PlatinumTop 1% (99th percentile or higher)
GoldTop 5% (95th percentile or higher)
SilverTop 15% (85th percentile or higher)
BronzeTop 35% (65th percentile or higher)

EcoVadis does not publish a fixed score threshold for each medal. The threshold moves with the performance of all assessed companies. A score that gave you silver last year may give you bronze this year.

EcoVadis badges if you do not get a medal

If you do not get a medal, a badge can still show that you are on the way. The conditions are on the EcoVadis medals page .

BadgeCondition
CommittedOverall score of at least 45
Fast MoverScore of 34-44 and at least 6 points ahead of the previous assessment, within 18 months

When do you not get an EcoVadis medal?

Even with a high score, you can fall outside the scope. EcoVadis excludes you from a medal if:

  • one of the four theme scores is below 30;
  • the 360° Watch score is 0 for at least one theme, or 25 for at least two themes (with exceptions if there are no negative reports);
  • you are active in excluded sectors, such as tobacco, weapons or coal.

Also check your subscription. Medals and badges belong to the Premium subscription and higher, not to Basic. See EcoVadis costs.

Worked example: reading an EcoVadis scorecard

An installation company with 80 employees receives this scorecard. The weights are an example. EcoVadis sets them per industry.

ThemeScoreWeightScore × weight
Environment603180
Labour and human rights602120
Ethics50150
Sustainable procurement40140
Total7390

The overall score is 390 divided by 7, rounded to 56. That is the “good” level, and enough for the Committed badge. All themes are above 30, so a medal is possible. Whether it is bronze depends on the percentile on the scorecard.

Where is the gain? Sustainable procurement counts only once but scores lowest. Environment weighs three times as much: five extra points on environment add more than ten points on procurement. Read how to approach that on improve your EcoVadis score.

How long is an EcoVadis score valid?

A scorecard and its medal are valid for twelve months. They apply only to the assessed legal entity, not to your parent company, sister companies or sites. If you want to keep your medal, plan a reassessment in good time.

An EcoVadis medal is not a certificate. Communicate it as “EcoVadis silver (2026)”, not as “EcoVadis-certified”. Clients and competitors will notice the difference.

Common mistakes with EcoVadis score and medals

Relying on a fixed threshold. Consultants sometimes name scores that will “certainly” earn gold. EcoVadis uses only percentiles. Look at your own percentile, not at a number from the internet.

Ignoring one weak theme. A theme below 30 blocks every medal, however good the rest is. Smaller companies often score low on sustainable procurement.

Choosing the wrong subscription. With Basic, you get a scorecard, but no medal to share outside the EcoVadis network.

Forgetting the medal expires. After twelve months the scorecard is no longer valid. Your client sees this straight away on the platform.
