NEN 7510:2024 transition before 20 February 2027
NEN 7510:2024 was published on 16 December 2024. According to NEN, existing certificate holders had one year to implement the new standard, up to and including December 2025. After that, the certificate must be certified against the new standard before 20 February 2027. So check your planning now with your certification body (CI), your step-by-step plan and the current NEN information on certification and the register .
The date of 20 February 2027 is a conversion deadline for existing certificates in the move to the new certification scheme. NEN does not state that every organisation must finish a completely new implementation project on that day. However, your certificate must be certified against NEN 7510:2024 by then. Ask your CI in writing which type of audit, evidence set and decision date apply to your scope.
The timeline at a glance
| Moment | What does it mean? | Action for the certificate holder |
|---|---|---|
| 16 December 2024 | NEN 7510:2024 published | Determine the difference between the old and new edition |
| Up to and including December 2025 | Implementation period under NEN | Adjust measures, documentation and evidence |
| 20 February 2025 | NCS 7510:2025 published | Check the CI and the status of the scheme |
| Before 20 February 2027 | Certificate against the new standard | Complete the audit and the formal conversion in good time |
NEN states that NCS 7510:2025 is the certification scheme for audits, and that certificate holders must be certified against the new standard before 20 February 2027. The RvA also publishes a BR010 list of schemes for which accreditation can be granted. Because the list, CI accreditation and available audit capacity can change, record the concrete planning with your CI and check the latest RvA version (RvA BR010 list ).
Delta checklist for your organisation
Start with the old certificate and the scope. Note the standard edition, locations, services, outsourced processes and expiry date. Then compare your existing risk analysis, Statement of Applicability (VvT, Verklaring van toepasselijkheid), procedures and records with NEN 7510:2024. Pay extra attention to care-specific data flows, suppliers, logging and continuity.
| Check | Question | Evidence |
|---|---|---|
| Scope | Does the description still match your services and locations? | Certificate, scope map, contracts |
| Risk analysis | Have new systems, threats and care processes been included? | Risk register and decision log |
| Measures | Have changes been translated into an owner and a status? | VvT, treatment plan, configuration |
| Logging | Are NEN 7513 and the client responsibilities clear? | Test report, logging procedure |
| Suppliers | Are contracts and assurance evidence up to date? | Supplier assessment |
| Operation | Is there evidence from the new period? | Internal audit, incidents, recovery test |
Fictional example: ZorgCloud Noord
Fictional example. ZorgCloud Noord holds a certificate against NEN 7510-1:2017+A1:2020 for hosting and support. In January 2026, the organisation makes a scope map and asks the CI which audit is needed. The delta review shows changed risks around external administrators and logging. ZorgCloud updates the VvT, tests the recovery of an electronic client record (ECD) backup, has an independent internal audit carried out, and plans the CI audit well before February 2027. The CI confirms in writing which documents and operational records are needed for the conversion decision.
Do not treat “before 20 February 2027” as your last planning date. The CI needs time for document review, the audit, any corrective actions and the formal certification decision.
Questions for your certification body
Ask which edition of the standard will appear on your new certificate, whether the scope can stay the same, which differences the CI checks in stage 1 and stage 2, and what deadline applies for corrective actions. Also ask how the CI handles accreditation for NEN 7510:2024 that is not yet complete, and which date counts as the formal conversion. Keep the answers with your transition plan.
Then plan a management review. Let management decide on scope, resources, risk acceptance and the preferred audit date. A transition is not an administrative version update: the new way of working must be demonstrably in place.
Frequently asked questions
Will all certificates be invalid on 20 February 2027?
NEN states that certificate holders must be certified against the new standard before that date. You must check the exact status of your certificate and conversion decision with your CI.
Do I have to rebuild everything?
Not automatically. Reuse whatever is still suitable and demonstrably works. However, carry out a substantive delta check and provide evidence of changes in risks, measures and processes.
Where can I find the current certification scheme?
NEN refers to NCS 7510:2025 via NEN Connect. Also check the current RvA information and the status of your CI.
