GMP+ database: look up certified companies

The GMP+ database is the public list of all companies in the GMP+ community. You search it by name, location, country, status or certification scope. The result shows whether a company is currently GMP+ certified. GMP+ International manages the database on gmpplus.org . For what the GMP+ certificate itself involves, read GMP+ validity.

You usually check the database before you do business with a supplier or customer. Certified companies are themselves responsible for checking the status of their partners. If you are unsure about a status, also read the GMP+ audit to understand what a suspension means.

In short: search by the GMP+ number and check the status. A suspended or withdrawn company may not offer GMP+ assured products or services.

How do you look up a company?

You can search in four ways. Searching by GMP+ number is the most reliable, because that number is unique to each company. The number always starts with the letters GMP, followed by six digits.

Search byWhen it helpsNote
GMP+ numberYou have the supplier’s number on a documentUse the new number only
Company nameYou know the name but not the numberWatch for variants, such as BV or B.V.
Place or countryYou are looking for companies in a region or countryMany results may come back
Status or scopeYou only want companies with a certain status or scopeCombine this with the name for more precision

The result shows, among other things, the name, the number and the status.

Note: old numbers no longer work

Since 1 December 2024, only the new GMP+ numbers are valid. Old numbers are no longer shown in the database, and you can no longer use them. If an invoice or document still shows an old number, search by name or ask the supplier for the current number.

What do the statuses mean?

Each company has one status. That status determines what the company may do and how long that situation can last. GMP+ International uses four statuses.

StatusMeaningMaximum durationWhat the company may do
Temporarily acceptedThe company is working towards GMP+ certificationUp to 4 monthsCarry out GMP+ activities within the scope, but may not use the GMP+ logo
CertifiedThe company meets the GMP+ requirements for the scopeAs long as the certificate is validOffer GMP+ assured products or services
SuspendedThe company currently does not meet the requirementsUp to 3 monthsNot offer GMP+ assured products or services
WithdrawnThe certificate has been withdrawnSee belowNothing, the company is out of the scheme

When a certificate is withdrawn, the company no longer meets the requirements. An exclusion of at least one year then follows.

Mind the differences. A suspension lasts up to three months. After withdrawal for not meeting the requirements, an exclusion of at least one year follows.

Example: checking a supplier

The fictional company Graanhandel Westerveld BV wants a new supplier of maize meal. The purchasing team asks for the supplier’s number and searches for it in the database. The status is certified, and the scope is GMP+ FSA for the production of animal feed. The team notes the date of the check in the supplier file.

Three months later, Westerveld checks the same supplier again. The status now shows suspended. The team stops the order and asks the supplier when the suspension will be lifted.

This check takes less than a minute and prevents a problem at the next inspection.

How does a company manage its own listing?

Each company in the database has its own listing. The status follows from the certification.

Ask the GMP+ Helpdesk or your certification body which details you can update yourself, and how.

Always check a supplier’s status on the day you place an order. A status can change after an audit or after a notification from GMP+ International.

Where do you find notices about suspensions?

GMP+ International publishes notices about suspended and withdrawn companies on its website. Each notice gives the GMP+ number and the reason. This is a useful addition when you want to check a company quickly. For the current status, the database remains leading.

Frequently asked questions

Why is my supplier not in the database?

This can mean the company is not GMP+ certified, or that you are using an old number. First search by name, then by number. If the company still cannot be found, ask the supplier for the current number and the certificate details.

Can I rely on a GMP+ number on an invoice?

A number on an invoice is the company’s own statement. Always check it in the database. That way you know whether the number belongs to the right company and whether the status is correct.

What does temporarily accepted mean for my purchasing?

A temporarily accepted company may carry out GMP+ activities within the scope, but it may not yet use the GMP+ logo. Ask such a supplier how long the period still lasts, because it is at most four months.
