FSSC 22000The FSSC logo

FSSC 22000 logo: when and how can you use it?

You may only use the FSSC 22000 logo for marketing, such as printed material, your website and other promotional material. It may not appear on a product, a label or packaging. The rule is in clause 2.5.5  of version 7 (May 2026). You request the logo from your certification body and use it in the specified colours.

Many companies put the logo on packaging because it looks good. That is exactly what the scheme forbids. Below you can see what is allowed, what is not and how to use the logo. The rule is one of the additional requirements. For how to check a logo on someone else’s certificate, see checking an FSSC 22000 certificate.

The logo on a product or packaging is not allowed, even if you did not intend it as a quality mark. Remove it before the auditor arrives.

What is allowed?

Clause 2.5.5 a names three places: your printed material, your website and other promotional material. Think of:

AllowedExample
Your websiteA logo on the homepage or on the page about quality
Printed materialA brochure or a company leaflet
Promotional materialA banner at a trade fair or a flyer

The scheme does not mention quotes or presentations. If you consider these promotional material, ask your certification body.

What is not allowed?

Clause 2.5.5 c is clear on this. The logo, a statement or a reference to your certified status may not appear on:

  1. a product;
  2. the label;
  3. the packaging, primary, secondary or in any other form;
  4. certificates of analysis or conformity (CoAs and CoCs);
  5. any other place where it appears that FSSC 22000 approves a product, process or service;
  6. places where exclusions from the certification scope apply.

Points five and six are often underestimated. A sentence such as “Produced in an FSSC 22000 certified company” on a label is a reference to your status and is therefore not allowed. Point six means that if you exclude a department or product from the scope, you do not use the logo there. Example: a bakery with a separate, non-certified department for frozen products does not put the logo on materials for those frozen products.

The official colours

Always use the logo in the correct colours. Clause 2.5.5 b gives two colours for the logo:

ColourPMSCMYKRGBHEX
Green348 U82 / 25 / 76 / 733 / 132 / 85#218455
Grey60% black0 / 0 / 0 / 60135 / 136 / 138#87888a

Black and white is allowed if all other text and images are black and white. A black and white logo on a page full of colour photos is therefore not the intention.

The scheme says you request a copy of the latest FSSC logo from your certification body (2.5.5 b). This way you use the current version. An old logo from a colleague or from the internet is not always the correct version.

The logo is also a checkpoint when assessing a certificate. See checking an FSSC 22000 certificate.

Text on the website

The scheme explicitly names the website as a place for the logo. A sentence such as “we are FSSC 22000 certified” in running text on your website falls under the same marketing rule. Clause 2.5.5 does not mention such a text sentence separately, so ask your certification body how they assess it. On a product page with packaging images, pay extra attention: the rule for products and packaging still applies.

Good and bad at a glance

These examples show where the line is.

It can happen that you have already put the logo on packaging or a label. You resolve that in three steps:

  1. Stop using it on the product, label and packaging immediately, even if there is still stock.
  2. Discuss with your certification body which materials already exist and how to handle them.
  3. Record in your internal procedure who may use the logo and where, so the mistake does not happen again.

An auditor also checks whether you have seen the error, resolved it and prevented it. Incorrect use of the logo can result in a nonconformity during the audit. How serious it is depends on the situation.

Checklist for your marketing

  • Does the logo appear only on channels that are marketing?
  • Does the logo appear nowhere on a product, label, packaging or CoA, and not on excluded parts?
  • Do you have the official version from your certification body?
  • Does the colour match the official values?
  • Is the certificate you mention still active in the register?
